The emirate of Dubai shares borders with Abu Dhabi in the south, Sharjah in the Northeast, and Ras Al Khaimah in the north. It is located on the Persian Gulf coast and surrounds the Creek (Al-Ain) which occupies land both in Dubai and Sharjah.

On January 18, 2010, UAE Federal Decree No.4 was issued by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; President of UAE. This decree is about ‘Regulating entry into, exit from and residency in the UAE’. By this decree, UAE has imposed Dubai Travel Restrictions.

The emirate of Dubai has always been very liberal when it comes to issuing visas. There were many nationalities that did not require a visa for Dubai apart from some countries that had limited time free visas for Dubai. But now with the new law that will be enforced soon, there are new rules on travelling to Dubai or even working in Dubai. This is currently just a federal decree but each Emirate will enforce their own policies before the coming year begins. According to the Decree issued by Sheikh Khalifa, every person who is entering UAE needs to have a residence visa.

Nationals of 33 countries will not require a visa for entry to the UAE, but they can obtain an Entry Visa on Arrival for 30 days only (This includes Western Nationals like Americans, British, etc).

The New Rules For Dubai Travel Restrictions And Visa Issuance:

New rules are:

• – All visitors need the address of where the visitor will be staying in Dubai/UAE before travelling. Visitors cannot apply without an accommodation confirmed by management or a leasing company.
• – The applicant must hold a return ticket and passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival.
• – Visitors are not allowed to travel outside the Emirate they are staying in.
• – When applying, you must pay a fee of AED 100 for each entry which will be refunded if your visit is restricted to 14 days or less. If the visit exceeds 14 days then this amount will be retained by the immigration department.
• – Residence visas can only be issued for those who intend to live and work in UAE (Not valid for tourists/visitors). This is the Dubai Travel Restrictions updated recently.
• – The minimum duration of stay that can be extended from 30 days up to 90 days is seven years and is renewable.
• – For visit visas, the fee will be AED 100 and is non-refundable in case of denial/cancellation of entry visa.

The Emirates ID card must also accompany each person while applying for a Visa or on arrival in UAE (permits free access). However, some visitors are exempted from this rule including children under 12 years old

All foreigners must have their own passport/travel documents for entry to UAE. A person cannot sponsor a visitor without having his own valid UAE residence visa. The rules are subject to change at any time so it is important to seek advice from the nearest UAE Embassy or Consulate before making travelling arrangements.

Dubai health insurance policy will be required with every application which costs AED 200 per coverage up to AED 2,000,000 (This includes a refundable deposit of AED 800). This is under law no: 9/2010 and shall be implemented within one year.
